Stream Ocean

Sentinel

A monitoring station for ocean projects

The problem

Sentinel had to carry camera feeds, weather, sensor readings, population metrics and biodiversity data, for two audiences at once. Marine scientists need depth and raw data. Project stakeholders need to know if the site is healthy, at a glance.

What I did

At Stream Ocean I designed the first Sentinel against one real user, a project manager running a coral restoration in Barbuda. It shipped in 2024. In 2026 I revisited it as a concept and split it by task into four pages. I built the concept by directing Claude Code. It runs on sample data and has never been deployed.

Sites

Sites lists every project with the ones that need attention first, each with its reason. Opening one lands on the survey point that caused it.

Two of three projects need attention. Fulhadhoo Nursery opens on point B.

Overview

Overview answers four questions on one screen: the condition now, what changed since the last survey, what needs attention, and what the camera last saw. The verdict comes first, with its reason in a sentence.

Analyse

Analyse states its findings as sentences above the charts. Narrow the time window and they're rewritten for what's in view.

Dragging the window to 10 April changes the second finding to pCO₂, a measure of the carbon dioxide in the water.

Archive

Archive keeps every recording with its detections. In the viewer the boxes follow the fish, and each detection is a dot on the timeline you can jump to.

The 11:35 recording, with a jump to the turtle.

Review queue

The model gives each species label a confidence score from 0 to 1. Labels it scored below 0.60 wait in a queue for a person. Confirm keeps the label, correct replaces it, and the Archive counts the fish under the new species.

One label confirmed, one corrected.
